About customs costs

Parcels being sent from countries outside the European Union will have to clear customs. The Dutch government has assigned us to carry out the customs declaration procedure for import parcels.

During customs clearance, the customs officer decides whether customs duties, VAT or other levies are payable on the imported goods. If this is the case, an invoice with a bank transfer slip will be drawn up for the recipient to pay. When the parcel is delivered, the parcel delivery driver will collect the amount owing, either in cash or on account, and this will be transferred to customs.

How does it work

During customs clearance, the customs officer decides whether customs duties, VAT or other levies are payable on the imported goods. If this is the case, an invoice with a bank transfer slip will be drawn up for the recipient to pay. When the parcel is delivered, the parcel delivery driver will collect the amount owing, either in cash or on account, and this will be transferred to customs.

Your parcel may have been sent from a country in the European Union, but from an area that lies outside of the fiscal (VAT and excise) territory of the EU - the Canary Islands or the Channel Islands for example. If this is the case, the goods will have to pass customs and customs duties, VAT and/or other levies, as well as the fee related to the customs costs, may be payable.
